Exploring Spiritual Self-Transformation with Theosophical Approaches*
Time: 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm
NOTE- this group meets every Wednesday.
Location: meeting via Zoom only (if interested, please contact the facilitator- see below)
The idea of Spiritual Self-transformation involves the slow and gradual shift from a conditioned, habitual approach to life to a more actual, real experience that allows a deep inner wisdom to prevail. Further, the Theosophical Society posits that a unified field of consciousness underlies all existence, and that Mankind’s highest consciousness is One, that we are truly a Human Brotherhood. In fact, this is the Society’s first Object: to form a nucleus of Universal Brotherhood of Humanity without distinction of race, creed, sex, caste or color. The process of Spiritual Self-transformation aids us in the realization of this Oneness.
The Theosophical philosophy posits that mankind is evolving in long-term cycles along with all other life forms in the universe. It suggests that consciousness is the focus of this evolution, using a vehicle (the body and personality) during periods of temporary life, for repeated experiences, resulting in the gradual unfoldment of the inner Spiritual nature (Divine Wisdom). This unfoldment, occurring naturally through overcoming selfish desires, is at first happening unconsciously driven by cosmic forces, but after a certain stage becomes a conscious and deliberate process. The Society encourages meditation, contemplative study, service, and self-study for this process. This group explores self-study towards spiritual self-transformation with the guidance of various Theosophical literature.
In the words of current Theosophist, Pablo Sender: Self-transformation involves making an effort to apply the knowledge and insights gained from our studies and meditation to our daily lives. This practice helps us develop the necessary skills to master our thoughts, emotions, and actions so that we are no longer powerless over them. Thus, making an effort to live in a more spiritual manner produces a gradual purification of our nature, bringing our thoughts and emotions into harmony with our spiritual dimension.
